Brush it Bold with Sheila Davis September 6th,7th 2025 (2 days)

The artist’s statement:

“My attraction is most definitely the play of light and movement in our natural environment. I am not attracted to ‘landscapes’ or ‘pretty scenes’. It’s the flash of colour and texture in a fleeting moment that gets my blood rushing.

While unfettered forests are my muse the subject has come to be the paint itself.  The surface tension created with drippy transparent passages sliced with heavy opaque brush strokes as well as hits of light where the brush barely touches the surface and calligraphic mark-making. All lending itself to more abstraction than actual place.”

In the workshop, you will:

• Gain the confidence to lay down colour using strong brushwork full of vitality and strength.
• Develop your subject matter to get your point of interest across without losing spontaneity and freshness.
• Push yourself to think in the abstract while keeping recognizable form and shape.
• Raise your artistic voice by working larger and stronger.
• Explore your bolder self with dynamic loose brush work.
• Learn to edit and simplify your subject defining composition and values.
• Learn to see Colour and Value and temperature and push it to its limits or tone it down to get your message across.

Dates:  September 6^th and 7th, 2025.

Times: 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

Fees:  KAC members, $280, non-members: $320.00.

Venue:  630 Cameron Harvey Drive, Kanata (Kanata Art Club studio).

Registration:  Opens for KAC volunteers on November 23rd 2024.  It will open for KAC members on November 30th, and for non-members on December 7th.

Terms and Conditions: 

The Kanata Art Club reserves the right to cancel a workshop if there is insufficient registration.  You will notified and will receive a full refund.

To withdraw prior to the start date, please contact: treasurer@kanataartclub.com.  A full refund less an administrative fee of $25.00 will be issued if the request is received prior to July 6th.  There will be no refund issued after July 6th, unless we can fill your spot from a waitlist.
