Beyond the Basics 

When we move beyond the basic techniques to the next level of watercolour painting, we have to deal with a different set of questions and challenges.

In this course we will address these questions by making small studies and by doing quarter sheet paintings of various subjects.  We will also explore the colour wheel and the different colour harmonies that it presents.

You will have the option of using your own sketches or the sketches that I use in my demos.

Some of the course topics are:

• Selecting an image to paint
• Drawing and transferring to watercolour paper
• Stretching the paper for painting
• Using a colour wheel
• Painting using various colour harmonies
• Analyzing your completed paintings
• Flattening the paper for presentation

Although I love to experiment with many different colour combinations, one of my favourite colour schemes includes Prussian Blue, Pyrrol Red or Quin Rose, Hansa Yellow. The range and variety that can be achieved from these colours is astounding. I look for mood and harmony in my finished painting and when I see it, I feel a sense of accomplishment.”

Dates:  March 1st to April 19th 2025  Saturdays 10:00 a.m.  – 12:30 p.m.

Location: March Community Centre, 630 Cameron Harvey Drive (formerly 1030 Riddell Drive), Kanata K2K 1X7

Fees: KAC members: $240.00, non-members: $280.00

Registration opens for KAC volunteers on November 23rd.  It will open for KAC members on November 30th, and for non-members on December 7th.

Kanata Art Club reserves the right to cancel a class where there is insufficient registration.  You will be notified and issued a full refund.

To withdraw prior to the start date, please contact: treasurer@kanataartclub.com.  A refund less an administrative fee of $15.00 will be issued if a written request is received no less than 48 hours prior to the start of the first class.  There will be no refund issued beyond that date, unless your spot can be filled from a waitlist.
