About the Artist:
Often working in plein air, Keiko’s atmospheric watercolors perfectly capture a sense of time and place. Through her use of colour, textures, and signature brushwork, her landscapes and cityscapes beautifully convey both the exotic and the simple. She started painting and studying in 2005, and has worked tirelessly to become fluent in watercolour.
Since 2011, she has conducted hundreds of workshops and numerous live demonstrations around the world. She has served as a juror in major watercolor/watermedia shows around the world such as the Watercolor USA Honor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor West, Splash 22, the International Watercolour Masters, and many regional or state-wide watercolor societies. In 2018, she was appointed to the advisory board of the American Watercolor Weekly. In 2018 and 2019, she was invited to be a faculty member for the Plein Air Convention & Expo, the world’s largest plein-air painting event.
Workshop Description:
Do you paint everything your eyes see? In this workshop, you will start seeing things differently and learn how to turn reality into a captivating, impressionistic image. The goal is to capture the essence of the subject that conveys a certain mood and atmosphere. Keiko will show you how to take the initial inspiration through a simplification process to an expressive painting that is strong in composition and content.
In the introduction to the workshop, we’ll focus on the fundamentals, including getting to know our materials and seeing things with an artist’s eye. The topics covered in this workshop include: a preliminary drawing and composition, a variety of techniques in paint application and brush handling; what makes a good design; understanding the relationship between light and dark values; planning and intuition; and how to edit complex visual information.
Keiko does a daily demonstration with helpful tips and insights. Reference photos will be provided. There will be plenty of one-on-one guidance/critiques and a question and answer session each day.
Workshop participants should have at least a basic knowledge of watercolour and some previous experience.
Fees: KAC members: $660.00, non-members: $700.00
